The Unspoken Rules of Las Vegas Tipping (2026 Guide)

Las Vegas runs on tips. The service industry professionals—dealers, cocktail waitresses, bellhops, and valets—rely heavily on gratuities to make their living. Tipping isn't just about politeness; in Las Vegas, tipping generously is the secret currency to upgrading your entire vacation experience and getting faster service than the tourists next to you.

Tipping for "Free" Drinks in the Casino

One of the best perks of Las Vegas is that alcoholic drinks are completely free as long as you are actively gambling (whether you are at a $100 Blackjack table or a $0.01 slot machine). However, the service is not free.

With 2026 inflation, the golden rule is to tip the cocktail waitress $2 to $5 per drink. If you order a complex cocktail or a premium top-shelf liquor (if playing in a high-limit room), always lean towards $5.

VIP Trick: Tip a flat $20 bill on the very first round of drinks. The waitress will instantly memorize your face and come back to your machine twice as fast as everyone else in her section.

How to Tip Casino Dealers & Pit Bosses

Dealers work incredibly hard to keep the game fun, manage payouts, and deal with stressful situations. There are two ways to tip a dealer at a table game (Blackjack, Craps, Roulette):

  • Placing a Bet for Them: This is the most fun method. If you are betting $25 a hand, place a $5 chip just outside your betting circle and tell the dealer "This is for you." If the hand wins, the dealer wins $10!
  • Handing in Chips: When you are done playing and coloring up (exchanging small chips for large ones), simply slide a few $5 (red) or $25 (green) chips to the center and say "For the dealers."

Note: You never tip a Pit Boss directly with cash or chips. If they took great care of you, the proper etiquette is to ask to speak to their Casino Manager and leave a glowing compliment.

Hotel Staff: Housekeeping and Bellhops

Hotel staff are the unsung heroes of Las Vegas. For bellhops helping you with luggage, the standard is $3 to $5 per bag. If you have extremely heavy luggage or a golf bag, lean towards $5.

For housekeeping, the standard is $5 per day. It is highly recommended to leave the tip daily on the nightstand with a note that says "Thank You." Housekeeping staff rotates, so if you wait until the last day of a 4-day trip to leave a $20 tip, the person who cleaned your room the first three days gets nothing.
