Getting Around Las Vegas: Taxis, Uber, and Airport Flat Rates (2026)

Transportation in Las Vegas is a massive industry, and knowing how to navigate it can save you both time and serious money. Whether you are arriving at Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) or trying to get from the Bellagio to Fremont Street, our Las Vegas Taxi & Uber Estimator helps you avoid tourist traps and brutal surge pricing.

The Las Vegas Airport Taxi Flat Rate System

For years, a common scam in Las Vegas was "longhauling"—when a taxi driver would take an unsuspecting tourist from the airport through the airport tunnel and onto the highway, doubling the fare to their Strip hotel. To combat this, the Nevada Taxicab Authority implemented a strict Zone-Based Flat Rate System for trips originating at the airport.

  • Zone 1 ($22.00): The South end of the Strip. Includes hotels like Mandalay Bay, Delano, Luxor, Excalibur, Tropicana, and OYO.
  • Zone 2 ($26.00): The Center of the Strip. Includes MGM Grand, New York-New York, Aria, Cosmopolitan, Bellagio, Paris, Horseshoe, Caesars Palace, and Flamingo.
  • Zone 3 ($30.00): The North end of the Strip. Includes The Mirage, Venetian, Palazzo, Wynn, Encore, Resorts World, Circus Circus, and The STRAT.

Note: These flat rates do not include a tip (customarily 15-20%) or the $3.00 fee if you pay with a credit card inside the cab.

Uber and Lyft (Rideshare) vs. Taxis

Rideshare services like Uber and Lyft are incredibly popular in Las Vegas, but they have dedicated pick-up and drop-off zones at every hotel. You cannot hail an Uber from the main valet line or front doors; you must walk to the designated "Rideshare" area, which is sometimes located deep in a distant parking garage (like at Caesars Palace or MGM Grand).

While Uber can sometimes be cheaper than a taxi, they are subject to massive Surge Pricing. During massive conventions (CES), sports events (F1, Raiders games), or simply right after a big nightclub closes at 3:00 AM, an Uber from the Strip to the Airport can spike from $15 to $60+. In these scenarios, walking to the hotel's main taxi line is actually faster and significantly cheaper.

Is there a Flat Rate to Downtown Las Vegas?

No. Currently, there is no official flat rate for taxis traveling from the Airport or the Strip to Downtown Las Vegas (Fremont Street). This route is strictly metered. Expect to pay between $35 and $50 depending on traffic via I-15 or Las Vegas Blvd.
